The Clavichord. Pressing down on the keys stretches the strings. The
technique is called "bebung" and is often used for vibrato.
This also applies to the Clavinet. The Clavinet is sort of a reverse
Clavichord mechanism, so it has less of an effect.
And on the Mellotron, the keyboard has a spongey feel, and you can
fade the notes in and out a little bit with the keyboard. This turns
out to be really useful with the 8 second tape limit, and it's common
practice to fade in a note an octave above on longer sustained notes.
