Now that's had time to soak in, I assume that you mean that the 
amplitude of the triangle coming out of the integrator is dependent on 
the frequency of the square going in.

Yes, I can see ways of working round this (variable gain buffer 
controlled by DAC; turn note table array in uC into a struct, provide 
gain settings as well, send by SPI to DAC.)

But I'm now going to try to forget this.

What I'm doing here is trying to start from scratch with as little 
copying of existing work as possible - because I'm trying to learn.

When I hit little hiccoughs like volume changing with pitch, the 
investigation and resolution is (hopefully) when I start to get to grips 
with this and possibly even to understand some of the maths.
