I wish folks would stop calling these 1/8" jacks. They are not 1/8" and
never were.
Switchcraft makes the Tini-Jax line which is .145" ID for the jack and .141"
OD for the plug. 3.5mm jacks are .142" ID and .138" OD for the plug. The
big difference is that Switchcraft plug is slightly longer than the 3.5mm
equivalent, and the tip is tapered slightly different. The retention issue
with 3.5mm cables in Switchcraft Tini-Jax jacks is due to the tip length,
not the diameter of the plug. The problem is exasperated by the lower
quality and tolerances of most 3.5mm jacks.
FYI - never ever use Switchcraft .141" cables with 3.5mm jacks. You'll
trash the jacks in no time.
