[sdiy] building your own instrument/patch cables

I use the short cheap moulded ones for most patching purposes within my synth, never encountered a problem. I use better quality for longer runs between synths or off to the amp, etc. I find the DIY thing not really worth the hassle unless I want something special such as Y cables, mult cables, attenuating cables, AC coupled cables, etc. One point for the DIY ones - if a cable is only going to be used for short runs within a synth it only needs the tip conductor. Cheap, robust and flexible need not be mutually exclusive if coax is not required.

Cheers,
Nicolas

Unless you're really gung-ho on being totally DIY, I don't think it's unreasonable to buy patch cables versus building your own.

I haven't 'combat tested' these yet, but they seem sturdy enough:

I got two packs of 12" long ones also available through this seller. They have up to 36" I think, and if smaller ones can't be found here, elsewhere they are definitely, if under the name of guitar cord etc.
