[sdiy] best method for clocking modular to DAW?

There used to be a simple single PIC MIDI - Trigger design on the net
but I can't find it now. I designed one a few years ago using an AVR
micro but this had DAC outputs for triggering drums. I might do a simple
trigger unit one day but it won't happen overnight. I haven't programmed
for years.
Having a trigger out that you can sequence can be more useful than just
using sync pulses.
