[sdiy] lasertran (was - speaking of drilling... Small drill press recommendations?)

I love it! Couldn't be happier. I tried it both ways, ink side up, w/out baking, and ink side down, baked on. There was a big difference. W/out baking the plastic 'decal' material stays somewhat soft, and can be scratched. W/ the toner side down, and then baked so the plastic melts to the aluminum, it's very tough. Alone, that leaves a very high gloss finish (obviously, as you've basically got a laminated panel), but after spraying w/ a satin lacquer (or I'd imagine any other finish) it looks exactly like a silkscreened panel.

It's also easy to work with. Thick enough that you can move it around w/out tearing, and I have had no issue w/ the graphics sticking. Just follow the instructions, print mirrored, bake for a min to bake the toner to the lasertran sheet, cut the sheet to size for your panel, get it wet and transfer to the panel, then do the slow bake to melt it on. Basic instructions are on their site. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I just finished re-doing all of my panels w/ this method. (took a few months but looks great!)

I'm going to switch to Lasertran. The DecalPro thing isn't working for me
very well. It's very tricky to do, and even in the best of circumstances,
little bits of the graphic don't transfer.

Live and learn!
