I have a drill press, and, as Graham says, I would not consider drilling 
anything where i wanted accuracy without using a center punch on the 
material first.

I would expect better results with a hand drill and a center tap than a 
drill press and no punch .

The center punch will be a lot cheaper, more space economic, etc.etc. than a 
press (and will, as i say, not go to waste if you then buy a press anyhow)
