[sdiy] Kurzweil K2000 Query

*Definitely* change the batteries.

In my K2000RS, a corroded battery contact once caused all sorts of
problems. Boot-up sometimes, well, er.... didn't- The LCD illuminated,
but as blank...
K2000s are well built on the whole, but a dicky key or membrane switch
can cause big problems during the boot cycle.

There is a tactile switch PCB inside the machine (in the keyboard
version, you have to take both main PCBS and a bunch of other stuff out
to get to it).
I swapped this for one from a newer machine, to give my main gigging
K2000 a longer life, and in the other machine, the older board stopped
working for the ENTER and MIDI buttons. Then, about a month afterwards,
they started working again, and are still working fine, months later.
Hmmm.... stuck or misaligned during the swap?

My *guess* is that the K2 scans all buttons, keys and connected
footswitches (I know the latter is true) on boot up, so any funnies
will cause problems.

This *might* have a bearing on it's behaviour. Myself and the guys on
the sonikmatter forum were both surprised that corroded battery
contacts could cause LCD malfunction, but they were cleaned, and the
problem disappeared, and has stayed gone....

hope this helps,

Cheers,
Dave
