I realize this would be kind of wonky, but a summing node on each input and resistor on each output would allow for input mixing by stacking.  Of course this would also ruin output stacking..

Resistors in-line with each cable would be another option, similar to the EMS patch matrix.  Of course this would limit your attenuation options, it would need buffers for external signals, and you'd have to always remember to only use the special resistor cables.  Anyone tried this?
