I did a quick search on the web and found ZN429's at Cricklewood
Electronics:

http://www.cricklewoodelectronics.com/

and also at Vintage Planet :

http://www.vintageplanet.nl/semiconductors.html

The best price appears to be at Vintage Planet

Good hunting

Subject: [sdiy] Doepfer Sound Sampler / Elektor Quantizer

Speaking of the Doepfer Sound Sampler...

Has anyone recently build (parts of) that? Being a voltage controlled
sampler,
it is quite interesting, but even apart from the CEM chips it uses
there's the
even harder to get ZN429 D/A converter.

The ZN converters are also holding me back from building the excellent
Elektor quantizer (with the ROM tables).
