[sdiy] good books/sites for synth electronics

Hi all
After many years I am wanting to get back into analogue synths. Could anyone suggest some good books or sites that would be good to learn electronics basics for synth building and adapting. 

I can solder fine etc but I need to learn more about components uses and how to put them into circuits. I have some ideas but not the knowlege to do them. I wnt to satrt small but am interested in moving on. 

also i need a digital multimeter with frquency readings so that I can set up the Digisound modular I have . any suggestions of good but not too expensive.
