Hehe, I'm doing PCB layout professionally since the eighties. Only  
very few didn't need any corrections on first attempt.

Hm, I'd rather use the existing board and make it work using jumpers  
or whatever. Perhaps there are more (less obvious) errors on it. Or  
you find something you can improve. Once it works I'd redo the layout.

Yes, that's how I do this too. Make two cuts at close distance (1 mm  
or so), then heat the piece of remaining trace between the two cuts  
with the soldering iron so that it comes off.
