I also must say i'm quite sure it's 95% society. I don't know how many parents i've met that have been trying, successfully, to raise their children as both playing with toy cars & dolls, and both wearing blue / pink. This lasts in my experience (not being a parent, just having listened) until kindergarten where social stigma takes over *hardcore* and the girls absolutely must wear pink, the boys stop playing with dolls etc. Sure there are some genetic differences, but they are by far outnumbered by the social.

Myself i've been doing DIY clothes and electronics for approximately the same time, i'm also noticing that "the female nerd" is getting more and more of a "cool" label as the years progress. I think in the bottom the social differences inbetween men and women are thinning out, hence we'll see more females in classic male territories and vice verca.
