[sdiy] Metal work

Paul,

Square holes weren't a problem. I had two, one for a filtered EIA Mains
Socket/Fuse assembly and another for a Mains switch on the back panel of the
synth. The precision of the holes in the Spectrum panel is excellent (it's a
13x3 matrix mainly) and there are three different sizes of hole on this
panel as well.

They did make one mistake with my order, they put the bends in one panel the
wrong way round, but I'm partially to blame for that in not making my
drawings clear enough. They are fixing this free of charge.

I supplied them with very detailed drawings, which I re-drew from the
Spectrum Synth Book, in AutoCAD dxf format of the flat form of the metalwork
(no bends in it to start). I used QCAD as the CAD software (which I found to
be very good for the money and did what I told it to do, which is
surprisingly difficult to find in low cost/freeware CAD software) and
checked everything with AutoCAD's free viewer software.

I'll probably be posting some pickies on the Electro-Music forums in the
next few days for my Spectrum project, so you'll be able to have a look at
these when I get them up.

Regards

Mike Gorman

Thanks, I'll take a peek, FWIW, I'd be happy with a bent/shaped "U" of
metal with the required holes in.
Best I've found so far is a hammdond case (1456WL1) though I don't
really need it 10" deep (6 would be ample).
If that company can do the drilling for me, and get me some nice
square holes (for displays) I'd be more than happy.

Cheers
Paul
