Sure--I have one of those, and highly recommend it. My point was just that 
there are cases where you don't need all of the infrastructure. It doesn't 
sound like that'll work for Jason's project, though.

I think I'm misunderstanding both of you.:-)

It sounds like what Jason really needs is a "shield" (i.e., daughterboard) 
that plugs into an existing Arduino board. It seems to me that that gets you 
compatibility at low cost. But I could still be misunderstanding.
