I'm not sure I 100% follow what you mean - do you mean why don't they  
have the current dropping through a cap to ground, then buffered? Are  
you asking why they all feed an inverting current-to-voltage integrator?

I seem to recall the datasheet saying that the output of the 2164  
needs to be held at virtual ground by an op amp for it to be happy.
