yes, very cool. Thanks. It will be worth trying.
What I ended up doing was a bit of a kludge. I used aero's
recommendation, added an extra gain stage then added 3 AA cells (they
were thin enough to fit in box space) to bring the voltage up to 12.5V
for only the noise section. I just used parts I had on hand which were
2N3904's. The 3904s had stopped making enough noise somewhere around 8
volts.
