OK, here is some *useful* information :)

For the TL072XYZ parts numbers:

X = maximum DC offset

blank = worse
A = better
B = best but NOT worth paying for, for the same price you can get even 
better parts

Now, does the DC offset (usually around 0.003V) matter? For *audio* circuit, 
no. For 99.9% for DC circuits, no. But in some specific cases yes but not 
for what most people are tinkering with.

In general, I use the 'A' version as it is a few cents more and I have never 
had to worry about it. But if all you can get a "blank" (there are only 2 
digits after the '072'), that is FINE!

Y = temperature, and C = commercial (0-70C) which is all you will ever need

Z = the package, P= 8-pin DIP

So:

TL072CP = cheapest, basic op amp
TL072ACP is the SAME PART with a lower maximum DC offset
TL072BCP is the SAME PART with an even smaller DC offset
