Usually the part suffix, in this case the part after "072" indicates one 
or more
of the following: rated temperature range for the part, package type for 
the part.
If you look on the 'ordering information' part of the datasheet, you 
might find
some definitions for the part suffix.

Sometimes the part prefix, in this case the part before the "072" 
indicates the
original part manufacturer.  Since there are many second sources for parts,
this may or may not be a reliable indicator of manufacturer.

Looking at: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tl071a.pdf, the TI datasheet
for the TL07x family, we see on the first page for the suffix:

C= commerical temp 0-70C
I= industrial temp -40+85C
M=military temp -55+125C

Looking at the second page: Ordering information we see in the right most
column, the 'top-side marking' and to the left a definition of what this 
marking
means.

It pays to read the data sheets!
