first thing you should do is to try and make a full "sector by sector" copy
of it to another drive with Ancronis. Then you are free to mess with
software to try and fix it.
Were you booting off this drive?

Subject: [sdiy] OT: help finding free/trial disk repair software
there might be a light at the end of the tunnel....
today my g5 began recognizing my crashed 500 gig drive which is still dead.
I ran the OSX repair disk and it told me i had a INVALID sibling link....it
shows my drive but its not mounted
anyway....i am broke so i am wondering if there is a free/cheap/trial disk
repair tool that might help get this drive running
long enough to copy it
thanks so much
