Hi,
well I think in a lot of applications you can use a op amp with a better 
spec, but you do need to be careful as if the op amp is used as a driver 
in a power amp stage, if you fit a replacement that has better slew rate 
  then it is possible that the whole amplifier could go unstable.
( was it Tony Allgood that this happened to ? )
also I gather that in the Digisound vcdo the slew rate of the original 
741 helps as a low pass filter.....
( but I would much rather use a better op amp and a filter cap )
