I use 'tackle' boxes - plastic trays with compartments & a lid.
About 12 by 5 inches and 1.5 inch high transparent plastic..
They come in one, six, or 18 compartment types.
I stack them horizontally in bookcases.
Good for most components, and the single compartment ones particularly
good for preventing damage to scope probes & the like.

I find the traditional drawer type too fiddly, plus if they fall over, it's 
a mess!
