from kevin: I'd very much appreciate someone indicating that it is 
possible to make PCBs directly this way....


I use a small Roland vinyl cutter called a Sticka to make PCBS.
One makes their design in the traditional way with Eagle (or 
whatever), but then has the design cut out in vinyl.
The board can be directly etched then.
I've used this several times and found it better than the printer 
toner transfer method for my needs.

In this directory below, there's a couple photos of a VCDO board done 
this way and a Minimoog filter clone. The front panel lettering was 
also done using vinyl as a stencil so an airbrush could do the actual 
lettering. Not fantastic quality, but good enough for some DIY 
projects.
This VCF's board was also done using the vinyl method.
