Oh - I wasn't expecting to have to write an essay on it :)
I do like the scanner-based one - gave me a smile.
My unit's a cheapish one I bought from Maplin Electronics about 10 years
ago - although I think it's beginning to show its age. It keeps the
board pressed to the film with some foam above it.
The only problems I've had are if the edge of the board isn't flat (for
example, if it's a rough cut), so I always file the edges down. Also,
the very edges of the exposure area can be quite 'dark' (which I can
understand).
Currently, though, I only do single sided boards, but I may go into
double sided in the next few months (I've not decided how I'll go about
it yet).
