[sdiy] tips for wooden frames/cases (monome clone)

Looking at the picture of the Monome, the case looks pretty damn easy
and I think you might be over complicating it (although there's no
harm in that).

I've made cases exactly like this before, and they've all turned out
really well.

On the monome picture, the sides are just joined with a mitre joint
and glue. (If you don't have the ability to do this at home, just butt
joints will still be fine!) Then for the recess for the top and bottom
panels, just run a router (or use a table router for way easier
results) around the inside of the top and bottom with a rabbeting bit.
Go around the outside with some sandpaper to smooth down the
corners... done.

No need for fancy joints aside from aesthetics. Screwing down both
plates will make it very strong!

If you want to get a pro woodworking place to make the case really
fancy, by all means! It'll help stimulate the economy! :)

But I think just going down to the hardware store, finding some nice
wood that's already in the dimension you want, cutting it, gluing it,
routering it, sanding it and then staining it should be pretty easy!

Have fun with it though.. cool project!
