Aaron,

It does look like the CA3019 in the VCA is incorrect, but as pins 2 and 5
are effectively shorted; the circuit will function correctly as shown (Just
sketch out the diodes on a piece of paper, ignoring the shorted and reversed
diode between pins 2 and 5. Pins 2 and 5 are transposed as well).

Hmmm... are the diodes in the VCA messed up? Maybe I'm misreading  
something.

That's a rather interesting schematic overall. The filter is like the  
Yamaha GX-1 filter.
