[sdiy] tinning solution toxicity?

Dave,
Liquid Tin is a solution of 10% fluoboric acid, 10% stannous (divalent tin)
fluoborate, and 5% thiourea. Fluoboric acid is not that harsh, as acids go
-- it's main claim to fame is that it's chemically inert -- and tin is
totally non-toxic (it's the active ingredient in toothpaste). Prolonged
exposure to thiourea may cause liver tumors, but unless you're drinking the
stuff or taking baths in it, I don't think you have to worry. Use the
normal precautions for handling any serious chemical (eye protection, rubber
gloves, reasonable ventilation; i.e., don't use it for several hours at a
time in a sealed broom closet) and you'll be right as rain!
Cheers,
Dave
