This is a really curious circuit:

Any inklings on how this works?

The middle of it looks like an astable multivibrator - that's a common  
fixed-freq oscillator circuit, but I don't recall seeing it in a VCO  
before...

I have no plans of trying to build this - I was just looking over  
various Buchla circuits and got curious.
