[sdiy] good pattern synth? (ot)

ok. this is not technically SDIY as my friend is looking for a PRE BUILT pattern synth..ala tb303, electribe, or something more advanced. i recommended the evolver to him but since it has no pattern sequencer he nixed the idea.

so...

basically he needs something he can sync to his SP1200 to add simple patterns which are tweakable in real-time. i have been out of the synth buying loop for a LOOONG time so i wasnt sure what is even out there anymore. 

think sid station style, electribe,etc. (something that can both make sounds and create a simple pattern without using layers of menus)

any help in this greatly appreciated! he has decided that PROGRAMMING in the sense of using piano rolls,etc is just not for him.
