As it happens, once upon a time I had to duplicate the sound of clapping. 
I recorded a few samples in an anechoic chamber and spent the next 15 
minutes wondering what was wrong in the recording process as all samples 
were slightly EQ'd impulses. Until it hit me that a single clap is 
essentially an impulse generator (although not very good one).

What you hear in claps is 99% room (and in multiple claps the 
randomness of the relative timing is important).
