Thanks for posting this. I've scoured the net for patchbay ideas, so this is another one for me to consider, and seems like a cheap solution as well.

Here is how I made a compact audio patchbay for synthesizers,
drum machines, multitrack tape decks, reverb units, flangers
etc. - from two solderless breadboards:

This technique could also be used for a patchbay in a modular
synthesiser.
The exact same "proto-boards" I used in the late 70s are still
available, from Global Specialties. Previously they were known
