Hmm...seems to me like the thumbtacks or push pins would not create any reliable contact with both strips to complete the circuit...then the holes at each patch point would wear with each patch leaving the thumbtacks rather loose and frther degrading contact...making a new hole for every patch at each patch point would weaken the tape and lead to other issues...

Perhaps if you try replacing the foam core board with a piece of 1/8" plywood or paneling you would have more durability...then replace the conductive tape with strips of adhesive backed copper shielding or the copper tape and apply in accordance with your original idea....next get some 1/2" - 3/4" machine screws, washers, & wing nuts....drill a hole at each patch point the machine screws diameter....punch holes in copper shielding or tape at each patch point slightly larger thean screw diameter.....apply strups to the board...place washer on srew and insert one at each patch point...to patch just place a washer & wing nut on screw at oatch point & tighten!

Pros...still a cheap solution and durable...

Cons...doesn't provide solution dor a good, easy, & reliable connection for ins & out...

Trying (unsuccessfully) to get to sleep tonight, my thoughts tumbling around my desire for a cheap, easy way to make a synth patch matrix, I stumbled across this ridiculously kindergarden idea. Please shoot this idea full of holes.

Materials: Foam-core board, conductive tape, thumbtacks

Directions: Place the tape in horizontal strips on one side, vertical strips on the other, all over the board. Horizontal strips are connected to inputs, verticals to outputs. Press thumbtack through board at intersections to make a connection.

Pros: Way cheap, way easy
Cons: Not very sturdy, thumbtacks would eventually wear away tape

There appear to be a variety of conductive tapes on the market. Would this work? Can you guys think of any improvements?
