Efficiency is in the eye of the beholder. Historically DSP programming was always about optimizing the hell out of your code. In this particular application (Nord Modular) the more processing you have per sample time the more modules you can have in your patch. Optimization helps to wring out the most from the uP.

If I output pitch CVs I will use a 16 bit DAC.
