I too use VMware Fusion on my Mac book pro to run WinXp, WinVista and  
Linux and they all run well, possibly better than on my old desktop  
machine. I have not yet had any problems with some of the dev tools I  
use and their use of the USB ports.

Although I know about VirtualBox.org and have anecdotal evidence that  
it works well, I have not tried it myself.
