Great suggestions Peter, Samppa and David that might help Jovius. I'm  
on the look out for something for my Mac though either sound input  
based or USB. If anyone has anything, I'd like to take a look but this  
isn't a priority for me at the moment.

If you're on a Mac (I think there's also a PC/VST version) - and have something that can host an AU plug in - I've been using this for years:

It's no replacement for a 'real' scope - but it's free, lightweight and reliable.
