Hm, the ESQ1/SQ80 employed an 6809E at 2MHz for 8 voices, where each 
voice featured 3 oscillators w/ 2 modulators each, 3 DCAs (again, 2 
modulators), the filter (2 modulators) and final VCA and panning (1 
modulator each). Modulators were 4 EGs and 3 LFOs plus keyboard 
position, velocity, pedal, and slider.

And there, the 6809E had also to do sequencer and UI.

So, again: what's the 68k doing there? :)
