Graham,
I don't want to go giving Mouser a bad name! I've had nothing but
great experiences with them.
The TL074s I was using were all from my parts bins... not sure where
or how long ago I got them. All of the other ICs were brand new from
mouser and they all still work fine. I didn't have to replace any of
them. I switched out all of the ICs from the first non working
quantizer I built to see which IC was causing the problem. I guess it
all got a little messy.
The real trouble was that I was drawing TL074s from an impure stock.
obviously my bin of TL's has some bad chips. I pirate chips sometimes
from found circuit boards but I try to keep them out of my "new
parts" bins, but apparently things get mixed around sometimes :-p
