[sdiy] Soft Synth

Hey all,
I have a totally crazy idea. What I want to know is who's as crazy as I am.
For years I've wanted to do a patchable software synth. A piece of hardware that you program by patching in an editor and downloading into the synth. Then Nord came out with the Nord Modular and pretty much blew it out of the water.
But I see it looks like the Nord Modular is gone. Then I see there is an open source project to replicate the editor for the Nord. And then Seb Francis starts his dsPIC project and I put two and to together and for once got 4: We are within striking distance of making our own Nord Modular! This will not be easy, but nothing worth having ever is.
So my question is: Who is up for a bit of craziness? I know there are a few tech hurdles to clear, and some rather large question marks. But this can be done, and this is the group to do it.
The good news is: since the synth is modular, so is the software. Once we have the basic structure designed and downloads working, we can write modules one at a time. After just a few modules are done it will make noise! Then we just tackle new modules as we see fit. Some modules are simple while others are more complex, and a few are downright scary, so there is stuff for all levels of skill and commitment.
Who's in?
