i myself find it very comfortable to send just the eagle file to the
manufacturer. i don't have to convert or export the layout. i know that many
manufacturers accept protel as well, however last time i was looking for a
downloadable test version of the software i had no success.

i found eagle somewhat similiar to bentley microstation CAD. once you got
around with it it's okay. especially the "select tool then select object to
aply"-logic is very nice IMHO.
