[sdiy] Oscilloscope recommendations?

Personally, I bought a Velleman dual channel, 60 MHz, USB scope, model
PCSU1000.

8 bit, 60 MHz, two channels, lots of nice features, small foot print, USB
powered. I especially like the spectrum analyzer and the Waveform Parameters
view. You can look at many different parameters such as DC Mean, Max, Peak
to Peak, AC RMS, AC dBV, etc. Duty cycle, Period, Frequency, etc.

8 bits is a bit low resolution, but to get 10 or 12 bit, cost goes way up.
Pico makes some nice PC based scopes, too, but at double or more the cost.

There is a companion 2 MHz function generator, too PCGU1000

I got mine online for $200.00 from

http://www.kitsusa.net/phpstore/html/VELLEMAN-PCSU1000-USB-PC-OSCILLOSCOPE-1
393.html

Downside (but also an upside in my view) is it is PC based and you have to
have a laptop or desk top to run it.

Subject: [sdiy] Oscilloscope recommendations?

Hi folks,

I'm looking to replace my flaky Sencore "$1 surplus special" scope.
I've been tempted to go after a few Tek 465's and 476's that I've seen
on ebay, having read nothing but positive comments about them, but I'm
nervous about ending up with a basket case that has problems. I haven't
seen any of these for sale locally. I've also been looking at a couple
of new, but affordable models from Protek and Tenma. They are lower
bandwidth models (30 MHz), but probably still sufficient for my needs.
I also have an opportunity to buy a Leader LBO-516 scope locally, but
the few comments I've seen on them have been mixed. My budget is around
$400 USD. If anybody has any thoughts or comments on these models, or
any other suggestions, I'd appreciate the feedback.

Thanks,

George
