I'm in the same boat - which is why I'm writing my own (although it's
really just an intellectual exercise at this moment to get my head
around Mac OS / Objective-C programming). It's nowhere near completion
(I've only got the schematic net line generation in about a 75%
completed status) though, but it's my aim that that the next "fun" board
I'll make will be using it.

If I had to pay for one, I'd prefer it to be Mac (which is why Eagle's
suitable).

Previously I'd used one called CadMust - but that company went bust, and
it was for a very minority platform (but excellent none the less). It
was also about the same price as Eagle is now (luckily the company I
worked for got it for me).
