[sdiy] Polysix memory replacement

I agree with Daniel about this - it's almost certainly the memory
backup battery. This is the absolute classic failure on old Polysixes
(and there isn't another kind!). As Daniel said, replacing the
battery with a lithium coin cell is a simple cheap operation, but if
the original battery has leaked as they commonly do, doing a thorough
clean-up can be much more difficult.
However, if the unit has no other faults besides the memory having
failed, it might be a good buy. Look out for flaky switches on the
panel, or missing/loose keycaps. These are hard to find replacements
for. The keyboard itself is also pretty feeble and often gets dead
notes. The polysix is a good synth when it's running with a sound
that is much more expensive than the synth, but it was built to a
budget and I wouldn't say they are reliable.
I've got two. One cost me $100 in Roswell, New Mexico (the aliens
left it behind when they landed) and the other I got in the UK for
£50. More recent prices have probably doubled that, but I wouldn't
pay more for one with no memory.
