Following advice from some a company that makes and repairs parts for very
serious military and aerospace applications, I wash the boards off with
isopropyl alcohol, (Isopropanol,'IPA')which removes flux residue but does
not remove anything else. I do a manual brushing technique with neat IPA,
then a mixture of IPA and water with a tiny amount of detergent, then plain
deionised water. With modern sealed trimmers, there are few problems, though
pots do pose a problem I know.
As an aside, have any of you seen the cheap imported ultrasonic cleaners
many stores are selling? they are good for cleaning off small SMT boards,
and can be had in the UK for arounf £20.
