[sdiy] mixing solder types

eyup,

usually when doing projects i like to do them the MOTM way, which is
to say use solder with a water-washable flux for the resistors,
diodes, caps, ICs etc, then switch to a regular type for the
mechanicals and wiring etc. i really like the results, the boards
look great.

i just started building a x0xb0x. now usually i'd completely populate
the board with the washable, do a bit of testing, then complete with
the no-clean. however, this is a complex project with lots of rare
parts, and the instros definitely recommend testing individual
modules of the circuit as you go. unfortunately it's necessary to
install some pots etc in order to do this.

so i'm looking at a choice between doing it all with the fluxy stuff,
or going the whole hog and risking damaging something rare if i screw
up somewhere.

third option -- is there a type of solder i can use for the
mechanicals that doesn't mind being washed with water? that would get
the best of both worlds most likely.

ta muchly
