Hi ,
My absolute favorite opamp for audio is :
OPA627 (OPA637): Ok! it is many time the price of a TL072, but what a sound !
Cheaper but not bad too the OPA604 is a good thing if you do not like the NE5534
sound , it is a good remplacement ...
I also suggest discrete ones : large package shape, eat a lot of current and
$$$ but fantastic sound and colour !
-Jensen or John Hardy 990
-API 2520 : Perfect for all kind of sound. Incredible for line/ mic preamps,
Accept only black vintages ones and avoid Blue/white recent ones because theyr
really sound crappy compared to good old ones ! Take care woith modern clones
too : many do not sound as good as true vintage.
They are ideal for a modular ouptut stage, yes, yes :)
My 10 cents tip , whatever you choice will be :
Use single opamp instead of dual or quad version ! They always sound better.
Power them to their voltage limits ( ie :+/-18V or 20V instead of +/-15V)
There is no secrets here : all good mixers are made with single opamps, ie :
Trident = TL071, SSL4000 =NE5534, Studer 169 = LM301(!) + trannies , etc ...
Indeed keep in mind that the opamp do not all : things all around are extremely
important too : design, routing ,psu ,etc...
Cheers,
Marc B.
