i have built about 50 percent of the boards i have purchased. some of the ones i havent built yet are due to needing a LOT more time and parts (the Klee for example) and others are just on the back burner till I really need that module.
I think many of us buy PCB's on impulse. We get excited to see a product available, and live in fear that said PCB may never ever be available again. This is the thinking that drives me to only buy ONE of most pcb's. I dont want to have missed out on something great, just because i didnt have 8 or 10 bucks around.
However, board prices have been going up (well it seems part of this is when buying EU pcbs) and i can no longer buy every board project i encounter. 12 or 15 dollars is one thing to explain to the wife but 25 or 30 is quite another.
I see pcbs like parts. you wouldnt expect me to use up all my resistors the moment i buy them would you? For people like myself who only use pcbs on SOME projects while building their own projects on strip, etched, or perf board the rest of the time, having a backlog of a few pcbs can be a fun thing to turn to for a weekend project when you are too burnt out on making your own projects.
also...one final issue.
many people who sell pcbs say they will ONLY produce them if they get enough people to buy them. (which makes sense) SO that drives many of us to buy more pcbs because we dont want to see that favorite project of ours NOT made...even if we have a backlog. without people keeping a backlog, many of these projects might never have a customer base.
just my endless rant
