Absolutely,

It's called "Political" and "Commercial" gain.

Not so long back I heard a so called "expert" saying that with
the increase in use of DAB radio and Plasma / LCD televisions
we are using much more electricity !. In all my years in electronics,
the industry has been striving to achieve less power consumption
in devices and designs. Think of how much power the early colour
TV's consumed compared to modern kit.
