[sdiy] saving patches?

Now that I have received some interesting help regarding organization of
modules, I'm curious now how you save a really good patch?

I thought maybe taking some photos but then you have to make sure you can
actually see the knobs and you'd better have color coded patch cords...

Making up some custom patching sheets and do it the "real" analog way with
pencil and paper?
