[sdiy] Very strange divider problem in Solina..

I thought this would go relatively easy. It's turning into a hellion.
This thing had 5 SAJ110's that have bad sounding garbled and or wrong
frequency outputs. I put a socket in to #4 first and tried swapping in
chips from a scrap unit here whose condition I'm not certain of but hey
there are 10 chips so I figured I'll probably have 7 at least that work
right? Well..curiously only a couple of them worked in *that*
location..but they did get rid of that problem initialy. So I went to
chip #3 which had just a bad patter of strangeness in a leg gehk gehk
gehk...ghek ghek..ghek ghek ghek... etc. over the top of the wave form
or it's resetting or something. Anyway it doesn't matter what chip I
put in there..it does the same dang thing. In fact chips that in the #4
location had the defect on what pin 11 I think... they all work fine on
pin 11 in that location but pin 9 is consistently doing this patter. I
mean...some of the dividers work fine. #1, #5 and #8 namely. The other
5 had one bad sound or another. 3 wast he least annoying but not good
still. :-).
1) does anyone have a better application diagram for the SAJ110 so I can
rig a test circuit for these chips? I did what I thought would work but
it doesn't seem to. I mean all you should need is pin 1 to -12V or so
and pin 7 to ground and a pull down resistor of 18K or like that on the
output you are testing currently right?
2) anybody seen anything of this nature? I've worked on a lot of
divider based machines but..usually I just swap chips when there's
something funny like that and it's fine. I also swapped the local
supply cap after reducing ripple on the front end supply a bit but to no
avail. Everything is identical.
