There is a similar thread right now about carbon comp resistors over at electro-music.

One thing I've noticed about stompbox builds is that they tend to be built like ships in a bottle. The picture thread over at diystompboxes is full of pedals that are just as beautiful inside as out. So there is probably something to "they look cool".

If you have the stuff sitting around or are willing to pay more for it, why not? I like the idea of building things the way they were built years ago. I am also thankful to live in an era of high-quality parts. The best of both worlds seems to available to anyone willing to pay for it. Hooray for now!
